Southern Grace Farm (SGF) offers riding lessons to children of all ages from 4 years old to adult. Instructors are available for both the English and Western Disciplines. All students regardless of age will need to read and sign a “Hold Harmless Waiver” form (minors must have parent signature). Helmets are required and must be provided and worn by the student at all times while mounted. Proper riding attire is required.
Lisa D. Abell – Lisa is ARIA (American Riding Instructors Association) certified. Established in 1984 the ARI certification program is a program offered by the American Riding Instructors Association to recognize and certify outstanding teachers of horseback riding who instruct their students in a safe, knowledgeable and professional manner. Lisa has over 15 years riding experience and over ten years instruction experience. Lisa has received her English training from several well known instructors including Diane Burt of Annerundle County, Maryland and has also received training in California. Lisa is well versed in both the English and Western disciplines and has extensive experience in training the English rider. Lisa holds m any awards and among those awards the English and equitation hunter/jumper from the Prince George’s Equestrian Center in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Lisa is an active member of APHA (American Paint Horse Association). Karen A. Anderson – A native Marylander, Karen is the owner and operator of Southern Grace Farm. Karen is a Master Certified Trainer (MCT) with over 20 years experience working with and teaching children of all ages to enjoy the world of equine. Karen specializes in the Western discipline and is proficient on trails and western pleasure. Karen has served on the board for the Southern Maryland Horse Council and Southern Maryland Trail Riders. She is an active member of the AQHA, APHA and the League of Maryland Horseman. Karen is also an active 4-H MCE volunteer and is a certified tester for the state of Maryland for levels 1 and 2 riding and knowledge abilities. Karen has a natural ability to put the most apprehensive rider at ease. Shelby R. Anderson – Shelby is the youngest instructor at Southern Grace Farm. Shelby has over eight years riding experience and has been teaching for one year. Shelby holds several awards for competition and local area events. The younger students seem to enjoy Shelby as their instructor and it is truly amazing to watch the young students as they progress in their riding abilities. Tabitha L. Brown – Tabitha has over 15 years riding experience and has been teaching both English and Western riding for seven years. Tabitha received her English equine training in Germany as well as other European countries and is well versed in the English and Western disciplines. Tabitha has many accomplishments and awards to her name and hold the title of Rodeo Queen 1999, Cochise, AZ. Tabitha is a member of the Pony Club of America (POA) and loves to ride her Appaloosa/Arab cross gelding, Dancer. With a unique eye for the equine, Tabitha uses her photographer’s talents to capture some of the most impressive photos. Tabitha serves as an official photographer for Southern Grace Farm.
